MashON vs Apple Fitness
Your workout history can be your next Ghost.
MashON adds shared live activities and Ghost imports to your routine. This comparison covers the Fitness app and Apple Watch Workout features, not the Fitness+ class subscription.
What overlaps, and what changes
During a group activity
Apple Fitness
Apple Activity Sharing lets friends follow activity and workouts. That sharing feature does not share workout locations.
Sources and scope ↓MashON
MashON puts participants on one live map with each other’s metrics. Create or join a Mash on iPhone; live sharing needs location permission and connectivity.
Live group Mashes →Racing a previous effort
Apple Fitness
Apple Watch already has Race Route: race your last or best time on a repeated outdoor run or cycling route. MashON adds Ghost imports from other supported sources and supports walking too.
Sources and scope ↓MashON
MashON replays an eligible recorded activity as a Ghost you can see moving on the map. Follow its route and compare your progress as you ride, run, or walk. Import your supported outdoor GPS activities from Strava or Apple Health, or use a GPX file with timing data.
Ghost Activities →Devices and sensors
Apple Fitness
Fitness works on iPhone without an Apple Watch for activity tracking. Apple also supports compatible accessories; Apple Watch can connect to Bluetooth cycling power and cadence sensors. Race Route is an Apple Watch feature.
Sources and scope ↓MashON
Use MashON on your iPhone without an Apple Watch. You can also connect compatible Bluetooth Low Energy heart-rate, cycling-power, and cadence sensors. Not every watch or fitness device is compatible.
Which sensors does MashON support? →Challenges with other people
Apple Fitness
Apple offers competitions with friends based on closing Activity rings. That is a different format from a public challenge built around a recorded route.
Sources and scope ↓MashON
Turn an eligible recorded activity into a public challenge with a shareable link and leaderboard. Other people can discover it and try the route in their own time. Creating public challenges requires MashON PRO.
Explore public challenges →Platform availability
Apple Fitness
This comparison covers Fitness on iPhone and Workout on Apple Watch, including the Apple Watch Race Route feature.
Sources and scope ↓MashON
MashON is available on iPhone today. Android is in development, with cross-platform support coming soon. It is not available yet.
How to use them together
- Record an outdoor walk, run, or ride with a GPS route saved in Apple Health.
- Allow MashON to read workouts and workout routes, then select a supported workout for your Ghost.
- Head out with the Ghost. A workout without a usable outdoor route cannot be imported, even if it appears in Fitness.
Do you need another app?
If rings, workout tracking, and Race Route already do what you need, keep that setup. Add MashON for a shared live group map and metrics, or to bring supported activities from different sources into a Ghost session.
