From idea to launch

The story of MashON, one day at a time.

We began with a simple idea: make a ride better together. Here are the daily design, development, and launch checkpoints that shaped MashON for cycling, running, and walking.

September 2026

  1. Milestone

    1.0.2 and a more discoverable website

    Apple's listing shows MashON 1.0.2 available. We published feature guides, running and walking calculators, a broader homepage, and a canonical website redirect.

  2. Milestone

    Submitted to RevenueCat Shipaton 2026

    Submitted MashON on Devpost. We also redesigned the download page, refreshed Watch screenshots, and added the product video to the homepage.

  3. Ghost gaps on Watch and stronger Teams

    Expanded Watch pages with distance and time gaps plus two route maps. Improved team photos and owner-only deletion, and corrected Challenge result validation.

  4. Trim, sync, and plan

    Added route-aware Saved Activity trimming with an original to restore, opt-in Cloud Sync, and a run–walk interval planner. Refined activity history and useful tools.

  5. Saved Activities find their own home

    Separated saved-activity management from selecting an activity for a Ghost Mash, reorganized History and Useful Tools, and added the pace and finish-time planner.

  6. Polishing the everyday experience

    Reviewed maintenance notifications, useful-tool layouts, and activity-specific presentation while preparing launch video copy.

  7. Equipment and maintenance

    Expanded equipment tracking and reminders, added cloud-backed ride history, and began the 1.0.2 update.

  8. Milestone

    MashON reaches the App Store

    The first public version became available on the App Store. We also started planning a short hackathon demonstration video.

  9. Useful Tools and a public home

    Added saddle-height guidance and tire-pressure reminders, then prepared the MashON website and newsletter.

  10. More control before launch

    Added notification preferences and tire-pressure tools with account sync; TestFlight build 49 was uploaded.

  11. The project becomes MashON

    Completed the project rename, refined activity consent, and reorganized Settings.

  12. Ride reliability

    Improved maps and weather, added low-power reports, and strengthened the Apple Watch fallback experience.

  13. Profiles and communication

    Refined avatar uploads and Mash setup, and introduced branded account email templates.

  14. A recognizable look

    Updated branding, navigation, platform icons, team flows, and illustrated website assets.

  15. Review readiness

    Built a repeatable UI screenshot catalog and refined maps and metrics. App Review requested additional information about the new submission.

  16. Milestone

    Submitted for App Review

    Prepared MashON Pro subscriptions, first-launch onboarding, and the App Store submission. The submission preceded the public release.

  17. Controls and recovery

    Refined ride controls and team recovery while preparing subscription flows.

  18. Scheduling together

    Rebuilt team schedules and polished the live ride and challenge experience.

  19. A new app structure

    Applied the MashON redesign, introduced four-section navigation, improved activity summaries, and refreshed the live ride screen.

  20. Wind and live stats

    Added estimated wind impact, improved onboarding and nearby interactions, and persisted Strava connection state.

  21. Clearer Team Chat

    Refined chat presentation for a more readable conversation.

  22. Chat design direction

    Set the Team Chat direction: distinct message colors and easier-to-read relative times.

  23. Teams become more dependable

    Strengthened ride lifecycle, team presence and recovery, selected public Challenge results, Ghost Mashes, and chat.

  24. Mash Teams arrive

    Added a persistent home for regular crews, with team-based activity workflows.

  25. A visual reset

    Applied the Figma redesign and added Challenge notifications and nearby-interaction status.

  26. Explore nearby

    Introduced nearby public Challenges and close-range rider sensing, while stabilizing login and leaderboard previews.

  27. Strava and Mash flows

    Expanded Strava import and export, refreshed the activity flow around “Mash,” and continued public Challenge leaderboards.

August 2026

  1. Sharing beyond the app

    Prepared the public website and Universal Links, refined Health access and group maps, and laid the foundation for MashON Pro.

  2. Richer group Mashes

    Developed weather and wind ideas, quick group messages, shared routes, and smoother host handoffs.

  3. More than cycling

    Added cycling, running, and walking activity types, and prepared public Challenge discovery data.

  4. Milestone

    Testing through TestFlight

    The beta reached a physical iPhone through TestFlight. Public Challenge leaderboards and early discovery metadata also took shape.

  5. Live Mashes connect

    Integrated accounts and the secure cloud backend, then added live group telemetry, QR invitations, deep links, and friend Challenges.

  6. Smoother maps, cloud groundwork

    Smoothed ghost and camera motion, resumed Git collaboration, and prepared the AWS account for a live backend.

  7. Make the ghost feel alive

    Refined follow modes, distance and time gaps, route milestones, Live Activity ideas, and locally saved ride history.

  8. Accuracy and architecture

    Developed Ghost route-accuracy checks, Watch workout metrics, and the first detailed cloud architecture plan.

  9. Apple Watch companion begins

    Started the Watch app for cycling workout and Health data sharing.

  10. From simulator to real devices

    Improved route-start maps and dark mode, then worked on Bluetooth sensors, background GPS, and Watch heart-rate data.

  11. Create, join, and chase

    Shaped the first create/join flow and live ride dashboard, then began Ghost Mashes using GPX routes and start-point checks.

  12. Milestone

    The first conversation

    Started building an iPhone activity app together and connected the Xcode project. The first repository commit also dates to this day.
